PBIS builds a healthy environment for residents and staff at Healing Lodge and reinforces our shared values.
Positive Behavior Through PBIS
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, a way to teach healthy behaviors in schools. It is an evidence-based practice—a therapeutic approach with benefits proven through research.
Modeling the Positive
PBIS is a supportive approach for adolescents with problem behaviors that focuses on teaching and reteaching positive expectations and interrupting and redirecting behaviors. Instead of rules, consequences, and getting in trouble, PBIS has expectations and values for both staff and adolescents. TRIBE stands for the shared values of the Healing Lodge:
- Trust
- Resilience
- Integrity
- Be respectful
- Engagement
The Healing Market
One of the rewards in PBIS is that residents receive points for positive behavior. They can earn points through good behaviors, save points, and then spend them.
The Healing Market is the Healing Lodge’s token economy system, where points become real rewards! Small to large items are available to buy with points. Saving or spending your points is up to the individual resident. Residents can go shopping at the Healing Market once a week.
The Market uses a debit card system. Residents are responsible for managing their cards—just like a debit card in real life—modeling and practicing real-life money management skills.
