The First Face trainings for employees of the Healing Lodge of the Seven Nations took off on April 4th. Training and Research Coordinators Donell Barlow, Hannah Tomeo, and Raisa Jones trained seventeen staff members on how to provide resources for folks in their communities who could be dealing with a mental health crisis.
The eight-hour training covers heavy topics such as Trauma, Intergenerational trauma, Addiction, and Self-harm to foster more compassion for individuals who need support. Participants are given accessible culturally relevant tools to apply when these situations arise and ways to offer themselves self-care as a result of potential vicarious trauma.
